Advantages of Zircon Brick

Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance

Zirconia refractory can resist thermal shock. In glass kilns, hot air will shock the refractory linings. The refractory bricks may crack or damage. Zirconia refractory can avoid this situation because of the excellent thermal shock resistance. It can effectively extend the life cycle of high-temperature equipment.

Good Mechanical Shock Resistance

Zircon refractory bricks can resist mechanical shock resistance because of the high density of the structure. In the production process, equipment will receive various mechanical shocks. They can used for the vulnerable parts of industrial furnaces to prolong the service time.

Stable Chemical Structure

Zircon refractory is an acidic refractory brick that can be used for glass kilns. It can resist acidic chemical solutions and slags. In this situation, zircon brick will not affect the production. It is an ideal refractory brick for glass kilns.

Low Thermal Conductivity

Zircon bricks have low thermal conductivity. It can sustain high temperatures in industrial equipment. The low thermal conductivity helps improve energy utilization. Moreover, it has good electric insulation that can use electronic materials.

Types of Zircon Brick

Zircon Bricks

Zircon Bricks, a kind of shaped refractory brick, are manufactured with stable zircon sand and over 64% zircon content.

Fused Cast AZS Brick

Fused Cast AZS Brick as an important role used in Glass Furnace is made of pure alumina powder and zircon sand.

Magnesia Zirconia Bricks

Magnesia-zirconium bricks are alkaline refractory bricks and are a type of magnesia refractory bricks. Made from high-purity fused zircon by sintering, they have the characteristics of good refractory performance, high strength, good refractory performance, and stable refractory performance.

Zircon Brick production process

Select raw materials
The main raw materials of zircon refractory bricks are zircon and other refractory materials, such as zirconium oxide, alumina, etc. These raw materials must be carefully screened and proportioned to ensure the bricks have the required refractory properties.

Mixing ingredients
The screened raw materials are mixed evenly in a certain ratio. Usually, a certain proportion of binder and anti-cracking additives are added to enhance the firmness and heat resistance of the bricks.

Molding and pressing
The mixed raw materials are placed in a mold and pressed into shape. The formed bricks need to have a certain shape and size to meet the subsequent sintering and use requirements.

Sintering treatment
The formed zircon brick needs to be sintered to make it have excellent refractory properties in a high-temperature environment. During the sintering process, the temperature and time need to be controlled to ensure that the structure and performance of the brick are well improved.

Zircon-Based Firebrick

Zircon Brick Applications

Cement Industry
Zircon bricks with high refractoriness and resistance to alkali corrosion are used in the construction of cement kilns and other high-temperature zones in cement plants.

Non-Ferrous Metals Industry
Zircon fire bricks are used for the smelting and refining of non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, and zinc, and can withstand aggressive conditions and high temperatures of molten metals.

Petrochemical Industry

Zircon refractory fire bricks are used in petrochemical furnaces and reactors where high temperatures and chemical resistance are required.

Glass industry

Zircon refractory bricks are used in glass furnaces because they can withstand the high temperatures and chemical corrosion associated with the glass melting process.

Iron and steel industry

Zircon bricks are used in various steelmaking processes, such as ladle linings, continuous casting linings, and continuous casting applications, where they can withstand thermal shocks and the corrosive effects of molten metals.

FAQ

Q: How is zircon processed?

A: Zircon can be processed to create zirconia by melting the sand at very high temperatures to form molten zirconia, also known as zirconium oxide (ZrO2). Zirconium, another derivative of zircon, is the chemical element Zr in the Periodic Table and takes the form of a silvery grey metal.

Q: What is the process of zircon sand production?

A: The production process of zircon sand includes the steps of ore mining, crushing, screening, separating (gravity separation, flotation, magnetic separation), chemical treatment, drying, packaging, etc. The technical means involved include physical sorting and chemical separation.

Q: What is the raw material of zircon?

A: Zircon sand is the mineral raw material from which zircon is extracted. This is then used to produce many engineering materials, including zirconia ceramics. In this chapter, the important deposits of zircon sand are mentioned and various applications of the extracted zircon are presented.

Q: How long does it take for zircon to form?

A: Zircon deposits may take millions of years to form. When rocks containing zircons are weathered and eroded, tiny grains of zircon are released. They may remain in soils, sediments or sedimentary rocks for millions of years surviving multiple cycles of weathering, erosion, deposition and uplift.

Q: Is there uranium in zircon?

A: As a natural mineral, zirconium silicate (zircon) is mined from the earth's crust and, like many rocks and minerals, zircon contains low levels of uranium and thorium atoms locked inside its crystal structure. Such minerals are called 'naturally-occurring radioactive materials' (NORM).
