Advantages of High Alumina Brick

Refractoriness

The refractoriness of high alumina bricks is higher than that of clay, semi-silica bricks and other refractory materials we commonly use, up to 1750~1790 °C. It is a high-performance refractory material. Usually, refractory bricks with higher alumina content have better refractory performance.

Load softening temperature

Because the alumina content in high alumina bricks is relatively high and there are fewer impurities, the glass body that is easier to melt becomes less, so its load softening temperature is relatively high.

Thermal conductivity

High alumina bricks have excellent thermal conductivity, because there are fewer glass components with poor thermal conductivity inside high-alumina bricks, and the content of stone and corundum crystals with excellent thermal conductivity is relatively high, so the thermal conductivity is relatively good.

Thermal shock resistance

The thermal shock resistance of high-alumina bricks is between clay and siliceous products, mainly because the mullite content in high-alumina bricks is relatively high, which improves the particle structure of products and improves the thermal shock resistance of high-alumina bricks. stability.

Slag resistance

Because the alumina content in the high alumina brick is relatively large, it has a certain resistance to the erosion of acid slag and alkaline slag. At the same time, the slag resistance of high-alumina products also has a certain influence on the stability of products in slag. Usually, after high-temperature firing, the slag resistance of high-alumina bricks with fewer pores is better.

Process of High Alumina Brick

The following is about the production process of refractory materials: Raw material preparation→material mix→forming→dry→sintering→cooling and QA→packaging and storage.

Raw material preparation

Choose high-purity alumina (Al2O3) powder as the main raw material. According to the need, some auxiliary materials may be added, such as clay, quartz sand, silica sand, etc. The selection and ratio of raw materials will affect the performance of the final product.

Material mix

Mix high-purity alumina powder and auxiliary materials in a certain proportion to ensure that various components are evenly distributed. The mixing process can be carried out by dry mixing or wet mixing.

Forming
The mixed raw materials are molded by a molding machine. Common molding methods include extrusion molding, compression molding, and injection molding. By shaping, adobes of the desired size and shape can be obtained.

Dry
The shaped bricks need to be dried to remove the moisture therein. It is usually dried naturally or heated in an oven.

Sintering
The dried bricks are put into a high-temperature furnace for sintering. The sintering temperature is generally above 1500°C, and the adobe undergoes particle bonding, grain growth, and densification at high temperatures. This allows the alumina powder in the adobe to undergo a chemical reaction to form a high-temperature stable mineral phase.

FAQ

Q: What are high alumina bricks used for?

A: High Alumina bricks have great features like high temperature performance, great corrosion and wear resistance, high bulk density, low iron content, etc. High Alumina bricks are extensively used in mining, metallurgy, cement, chemical and refinery and refractory industries.

Q: How to make high alumina bricks?

A: Adopt heavy high aluminium bauxite abrasive powder with about 55% Al2O3 content and binding clay fines with about 31~32% Al2O3 content as the raw materials. The proportion of bauxite chamotte and binding clay fines is 9:1. Add 48~50% water into ball mill and grind for 1~2 hours. Mud all go through the 0.2mm sieve.

Q: What is the color of high alumina cement?

A: Black
High alumina cement is black in color and develops very fast in strength. About 80% of the ultimate strength is developed after 24 hours, and even 8 hours is strong enough to remove the formwork. The high growth rate of strength is due to its rapid hydration. It also has a high calorific value.

Q: What is the melting point of high alumina bricks?

A: High-temperature resistance: High alumina fused cast bricks can withstand temperatures ranging from 1600°C to 1800°C (2912°F to 3272°F) and even higher in some cases. They are suitable for use in applications where extreme heat is encountered, such as in furnaces, kilns, and reactors.

Q: What size are high alumina bricks?

A: Although any size of bricks as per the requirement can be manufactured but there are certain standard sizes which are commonly used. Standard sizes of High Alumina Bricks are : Standard bricks : 9” x 4.5” x 3” ; 9”x4. 5”x2” ; 9”x4.
