Magnesia chrome bricks are an important type of refractory material, primarily composed of magnesium oxide (MgO) and chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃).The main components of magnesia-chrome bricks include magnesium oxide (typically 60-80%) and chromium oxide (typically 8-20%), and may also contain small amounts of impurities such as aluminum oxide and silicon oxide. At high temperatures, MgO and Cr₂O₃ form magnesium chromite spinel (MgCr₂O₄) solid solutions, which is the key to the excellent properties of magnesia-chrome bricks.
Production Process of Magnesia-Chrome Bricks
The production process of chrome-magnesite bricks typically includes the following steps:
Raw Material Preparation
High-purity magnesia and chromite are selected, crushed, and screened to appropriate particle sizes (usually coarse, medium, and fine particles).
Batching and Mixing
Raw materials are proportioned, mixed with binders (e.g., water or organic binders), and blended uniformly in a mixing machine.
Forming
The mixture is pressed into brick shapes using hydraulic presses, controlling the density and shape of the green bricks.
Drying
The green bricks are dried at 100–200°C to remove moisture and prevent cracking during firing.
Firing
The bricks are sintered in high-temperature tunnel kilns (1600–1800°C), allowing the raw materials to react and form a spinel phase, creating a dense ceramic-bonded structure.
Inspection and Packaging
The finished bricks are tested for dimensions, density, and refractoriness, and qualified products are packaged for delivery.

Key Characteristics of Magnesia-chrome Bricks
Because of the unique chemical and physical properties of chrome-magnesite bricks composition, they hold a significant place in high-temperature industries. Key properties include:
Exceptional High-Temperature Performance:
1).High Load Softening Point: They have high creep resistance, maintaining structural stability even under high temperatures and heavy pressure.
2).High Refractoriness: >2000°C, suitable for extreme high-temperature environments.
Mechanical Strength: Maintains high compressive and flexural strength at high temperatures.
Good Corrosion Resistance:
1).Slag Corrosion Resistance: Particularly, both direct-bonded and fused-rebonded magnesia-chrome bricks exhibit excellent resistance to both basic slags and certain acidic slags.
2).Iron Oxide Corrosion Resistance: In smelting, iron oxide corrosion of furnace linings is a major factor, and magnesite-chrome bricks offer good resistance to it.
Good Thermal Shock Resistance: The presence of magnesia-chrome spinel provides good stability under rapid temperature changes.
Dense Structure, Low Porosity: Especially direct-bonded and Fused Magnesia-Chrome Bricks, their dense structure helps improve corrosion resistance and permeability.
Volume Stability: Minimal volume change at high temperatures, ensuring structural stability.
Good thermal conductivity
Applications of Magnesia Chrome Brick
