Sintered silicon bricks are refractory materials primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2), produced through high-temperature sintering. It plays a crucial role in industrial applications, especially in kilns and equipment that require resistance to high temperatures, acid corrosion, and heavy loads.
Production Process of Sintered Silica Brick
The process includes the following steps:
Raw Material Preparation
The main raw material is high-purity quartz sand (SiO2). Small amounts of mineralizers (like lime, iron scale) and binders (such as molasses water, waste paper pulp liquor) are sometimes added to promote sintering and improve the strength of the green body.
Batching and Mixing
Quartz sand, mineralizers, and binders are accurately proportioned and thoroughly mixed using mechanical stirrers.
.Forming
The mixed material is typically pressed into the desired brick shape.
Drying
The formed green bricks need to be dried to remove excess moisture, preventing cracking during the sintering process.
Sintering
Sintering occurs in high-temperature tunnel kilns at 1400°C–1500°C.
During sintering, quartz gradually transforms into tridymite or cristobalite, enhancing structural stability. The heating rate must be strictly controlled, especially in the 200°C–800°C range (quartz phase transition zone), to avoid thermal stress-induced cracking.
Cooling and Inspection
After sintering, the silica bricks need to be gradually cooled to room temperature to prevent cracking caused by rapid temperature drops.
Finished products undergo quality inspection for density, porosity, strength, and other performance metrics.

Characteristics of Sintered Silica Refractory Brick
Refractory silica brick possesses a unique set of properties:
High Silica Content
Typically contains over 93% SiO2, which gives it excellent acid slag resistance.
High Refractoriness
Refractoriness is 1690-1730℃, close to the melting point of pure SiO₂ (around 1750°C).They maintain structural stability at high temperatures (1400°C–1600°C), suitable for long-term high-temperature operations.
High Refractoriness Under Load
High load softening point is1650°C–1680°C, indicating strong resistance to deformation under high temperatures.
High Strength
High compressive strength at room temperature 30–50 MPa, with slightly reduced strength at high temperatures.
Good Thermal Stability
Shows some resistance to temperature fluctuations, but should be avoided in equipment with significant temperature changes below 600°C. In this range, crystal transformations can lead to volume changes and potential cracking.
Excellent Chemical Corrosion Resistance
Exhibits strong resistance to acidic slags and acidic atmospheres.
Good Wear Resistance
Suitable for high-abrasion environments.
Low Thermal Conductivity
1.0–1.5 W/m·K, providing moderate insulation but suitable for furnace areas requiring some heat conduction.
Volume Stability
Post-firing expansion must be controlled (typically ≤0.5%).
Applications of Sintered Silicon Bricks
Due to its excellent high-temperature resistance and acid corrosion resistance, sintered silicon brick is widely used in the following industrial sectors:
Glass Melting Furnaces
Used in the crowns, sidewalls, partitions walls ,breast walls, regenerators, and upper structures of glass melting furnaces due to their ability to withstand high temperatures and acidic corrosion.
01
Coke Ovens
Applied in the furnace walls and roofs ,Carbonization chambers, combustion chamber walls and regenerator checker bricks of coke ovens, resisting high temperatures and chemical erosion.
02
Hot Blast Stoves
Checker bricks in high-temperature zones, linings of hot blast stoves, enduring high-temperature gas erosion.
03
Ceramic Industry
Used for the roofs ,linings and load-bearing structures of various ceramic kilns.
04
Cement and Lime Industry
Found in rotary kilns, preheaters, coolers, and lime calcination equipment.
05
